Job Description
Come join our Global Program team as a Mental Health Specialist to serve on a technical advising team to develop and provide implementation support for Global Program designs, initiatives and tools to support Mental Health Programming. You will provide expert knowledge in the mental health field and will work independently on highly complex and/or cross-functional issues while coaching and/or overseeing the work of other specialists in our National Offices.

What will you do?
- Maintain a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ, maintain a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside of Compassion, and faithfully uphold Compassion’s ministry in prayer.
- Act as an advocate to raise the awareness of the needs of children. Understands Christ’s mandate to protect children. Commit to and prioritize child protection considerations in all decision-making, tasks and activities across the ministry. Abide by all behavioral expectations in Compassion’s Statement of Commitment to Child Protection and Code of Conduct. Report any concerns of abuse, neglect or exploitation of children through Compassion’s internal reporting process and appropriately support responses to incidents if they occur.
- Uphold and engage in Compassion’s core Cultural Behaviors.
- Focusing on overall holistic Child development, provide subject matter expertise to National Offices in supporting prevention, mitigation and response to all forms of mental health challenges impacting the beneficiaries in the different contexts.
- Manage the Mental Health Community of Practice including promoting best practices and facilitating cross learning between sectors, regions, and fields. Promote learning in emerging areas of interest and facilitate opportunities for learning exchange highlighting best practices in National Offices.
- Ensure all Mental Health resources/curricular/approaches are developed/updated and accessible to National Office staff and Frontline Church Partners’ staff to address the identified beneficiary mental health needs.
- Collaborate across Global Program with other SMEs to develop content and design/facilitate group learning events to empower National Office staff to mitigate and address the identified mental health needs among beneficiaries.
- Utilize data and industrial practices to support the National Offices in the identification of determinants of mental health among those we serve, and support the design of interventions to address the identified gaps.
- Support the National Offices in development of simple tools to facilitate community assessments, timely identification and referral of beneficiaries with mental illness.
What do you bring?
- Master’s degree in psychology, sociology or any other related field.
- Ten years’ experience working in this or similar position or field.
- Advisor-level experience of a mental health initiative in a developing country is desirable.
- Non-profit ministry experience is a plus.
- Must be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.
