Job Description
Background
Organizational Setting and Reporting Relationships: These temporary positions are located at headquarters (OHRM), the Regional Commissions and field medical facilities, including those UN Clinics administered by UNDP. Depending on their location, they report to UN Health Manager if applicable.
Duties and Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Nurse at this level will be responsible for the following duties: (These duties are generic and may not be carried out by all Nurses.)
Clinical Duties:
Responds to emergency calls and assists UN Health Manager.
Ensures effective liaison between patient and private doctor, paramedics, family members, and colleagues as appropriate, documents case findings.
Assist to the UN Health Manager on the management, organization and coordination of the fever and other Covid-19 symptoms in isolation room at the duty station.
Support the UN Health Manager in the management of the isolation room of medium and in severe cases prepare the patient to transfer to a COVID-19 facility.
Performs point of care screening tests and alert UN Health Manager to activate response team for sample collection.
Performs clinical assessment of patients at the duty station; provides care/advice accordingly or facilitates referral to the UN Clinic or to an outside physician, as indicated.
Ensures preparedness of staff at duty station, instructing on Covid-19 mitigation measures and other ailments.
Assists in providing health education and health promotion programs; participates in work environment assessment with special emphasis to the preventative measures of the Covid-19 outbreak,
Medico-administrative duties:
Assists UN Health Manager in all her/his activities as required.
Ensures that medical instruments are properly sterilized.
Ensures proper filing of medical and other records.
Evaluates, orders and maintains an efficient inventory and stock control of medications/vaccines and other medical supplies and equipment.
Supervisory Duties:
Assumes all supervisory and medico-administrative duties of the Nurse.
General:
Performs other related duties as required.

Physicians and nurses outside the UN
Representatives of pharmaceutical/medical supply companies.
Delegates and NGO Representatives
Visitors
Insurance Providers
Hospitals
Results Expected:
Assists in the implementation of preventive and medical actions and responses related to disease outbreak crisis. Provides quality nursing services that contribute to good physical and mental health of the staff of the Organisation.
Competencies
Professionalism: Knowledge of clinical, occupational and travel nursing. Formal training in CPR and, preferably, in BCLS and ACLS or equivalent emergency medical care. Knowledge of major medical office equipment and ability to use them in emergency situations. Knowledge of use of ventilator machine and management of critical patient in respiratory distress. Knowledge of point of care testing. Shows pride in work and in achievements; demonstrates professional competence and mastery of subject matter; is conscientious and efficient in meeting commitments, observing deadlines and achieving results; is motivated by professional rather than personal concerns; shows persistence when faced with difficult problems or challenges; remains calm in stressful situations. Required Skills and Experience
Education:
Registered Professional Nurse with high school diploma and who is a graduate of either an accredited baccalaureate nursing programme or an accredited diploma programme (3 years). National registration and license are required.
Experience:
Six years of experience in nursing or related area. UN field experience is highly desirable. Demonstrated expertise in the care of the mechanically ventilated patient, including the set up and maintenance of circuits and ventilator machines. Previous experience in humanitarian crisis and infectious diseases is highly desirable. Certification as Intensive Care Nurse or a minimum of 1 year’ experience as an Intensive Care Nurse in the past 5 years. Proven experience in barrier nursing and use of PPE.
Language:
English and Swahili are the working languages of the United Nations. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
