Job Description


This career specialist will design and conduct evaluations of disaster response and targeted response projects. This will include evaluating donor or grant-funded time-bound projects as well as designing M&E frameworks for disaster response and resilience and targeted response interventions for Frontline Church Partners to use. This position will report to the M&E Manager for Disaster and Targeted Response on the M&E Design team. This position will collaborate with other members of the Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning (MERL) team as well as with other teams across the organization.

What will you do?

Maintain a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ, maintain a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside of Compassion, and faithfully uphold Compassion’s ministry in prayer.

Act as an advocate to raise the awareness of the needs of children. Understands Christ’s mandate to protect children. Commit to and prioritize child protection considerations in all decision-making, tasks and activities across the ministry. Abide by all behavioral expectations in Compassion’s Statement of Commitment to Child Protection and Code of Conduct. Report any concerns of abuse, neglect or exploitation of children through Compassion’s internal reporting process and appropriately support responses to incidents if they occur.

Uphold and engage in Compassion’s core Cultural Behaviors.

Supports overall holistic child development and provides ongoing subject matter expertise in collecting, advising on the collection of, and using high quality data to measure program inputs, outputs, and outcomes. Aids partnership facilitators, program support team and church partners, by providing coaching and knowledge within monitoring and evaluation. May provide technical advice on monitoring and evaluation too national office, regional, and global staff. Growing depth and breadth of knowledge in field of expertise educates others regarding industry standards, national policies and best practices.

Develop high-quality monitoring and evaluation systems, considering methods, timelines, overall purpose/use, requirements, resources and capacities, and sector best practices.

Design and implement surveys (e.g., baseline, midline, endline) and other components, as applicable, to evaluate disaster and targeted response projects. These projects may include multiple sectors, such as education, livelihoods, food security, health, etc.

Utilize high-quality quantitative or qualitative methods, as appropriate, to monitor and evaluate projects.

Build surveys using xls forms in survey platforms such as SurveyCTO or ODK. This includes yaml file creation and iteration.

Simplify complex information to report to a variety of stakeholders.

Collaborate with Compassion’s Data Insights team on visualizations that will allow stakeholders to meaningfully engage with the data and draw accurate conclusions.

Champion holistic child development and provide the organization with ongoing subject matter expertise in using high quality data to measure program inputs, outputs, and outcome.

Provide project management of evaluation activities, including data collection planning.

What do you bring?

Master’s degree in Monitoring and Evaluation, Public Health, International Development, Humanitarian Studies, or a related field, required.

Seven years’ relevant experience working in an international development setting with an emphasis in evaluation or research.

Experience in designing and conducting evaluations is required.

Experience with online survey tools and conducting quantitative analysis using a statistical software package is required.

Must be able to speak, read, and write fluently in English.

Fluency in a second language is a plus.

Travel Requirements: Ability to travel up to 25% of normal schedule including international travel. Travelers must follow the vaccination rule of each country they travel to.
