WDL Plant Maintenance Engineer

Summary: Williamson Diamond Limited (WDL) is Tanzania’s only large-scale diamond producer. The mine is an open pit operation based upon the 146 hectares Mwadui kimberlite pipe, which is one of the world’s largest economic kimberlites. For over 80 years, Williamson Diamond Limited has lived side by side and co-existed peacefully with the communities around Mwadui, while implementing a wide range of development programs, focusing on promoting the lives and livelihoods of the communities surrounding Mwadui Mine Site.

Role Description: Responsible for safety at work place and supervision of design, planning, installation, maintenance and repair, monitoring, reviewing, and reporting of mechanical equipment in the mining treatment plant.

Tasks and Responsibilities:-

  • Supervise standard mechanical design, maintenance and repairs of various mechanical equipment to ensure equipment keep reliability, availability and capability as and when required to operate, which includes heavy duty machinery for processing plant as belt conveyors, crushers, scrubbers, mills, pumps, vibrating screens, other machinery, and workshop tools.
  • Perform duties safely, quickly, efficiently and resolution to prevent/ minimise plant mechanical machinery and equipment downtime.
  • Safety first- perform safe risk assessment and ensure on everyone, everywhere and every time at workplace.
  • Plan and establish timetable to do major and minor on mechanical design, maintenance and repairs of mechanical systems, lubrication systems and hydraulic systems, other mechanical equipment and accessories as per OEM schedule or maintenance plans
  • Maintain an accurate record on assigned work.
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance including oil change & lubes and tune-ups.
  • Perform adhoc but frequent inspections as part of the preventative maintenance program.
  • Perform identify equipment problems before repairs and test after repairs are completed to ensure safe and proper operation.
  • Perform tests on specific parts and systems to ensure safe and proper operation.
  • Analyse mechanical equipment and accessories system failures to determine root causes and resolve problems.
  • Examine critical parts and systems using a standard checklist.
  • Order parts and supplies as needed in a timely manner and ensure to keep accurate inventory records.
  • Remove, overhaul, repair and/or replace major and minor malfunctioning mechanical systems and parts such as transmission drive system, lubrication system, and other mechanical parts.
  • Visit job sites to inspect equipment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements for all applicants:-

  • Qualified Mechanical engineer NTA level 7 to 8.
  • Registered ERB Engineering.
  • At least 5 years’ experience carrying out design, construction, maintenance and repairs of heavy duty mechanical machinery for processing plant- planning, coordinating, prioritising, ordering material, inventory of assets, execution and innovation/ modifications.
  • Must have knowledge on a wide range of processing plant mechanical machinery and equipment; belt conveyors, crusher, apron feeders, scrubbers, sizing screens, pumps, mills, other machinery, and equipment.
  • Must have knowledge on management of mechanical designs, assets, construction, maintenance, and contractors.
  • Must have knowledge to use any maintenance planning systems and AutoCAD software.
  • Ability to maintain most of the plant mechanical equipment and tools specific to the job including belt conveyors, crusher, apron feeders, scrubbers, sizing screens, pumps, mills, and other equipment and structures.
  • Technical mathematics skills.
  • Be able to work independently without or with minimal supervision, be self-driven, reliable analytic and problem solver, and proactive.
  • Carry out designs, maintenance and repairs to the highest standard within the required standards.
  • Good work relationship, a team player.
  • Must have traceable references.
  • Computer skills proficient.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication in English/ Swahili.
  • Possession of a valid driving license.
