The Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) is a Statutory Institution owned by the two Governments of the United Republic of Tanzania and the Republic of Zambia on a 50/50 share holding basis, with its registered head Office being in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The Authority has two Regional Administrative Centres, one in Mpika, Zambia and the other in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The position of Legal Officer at the Tanzania Regional Office has become available. Suitably qualified Tanzanians are requested to apply as per details below.

Job Purpose

• To assist Senior Legal Counsel in handling litigation cases and ensure that company transactions and business activities are in accordance with the provisions of the law.

Responsibilities

1. a) Institute legal Proceedings on the behalf of the company and defend those against the company contention infringements, in order to safeguard operations and/or transactions.
   b) Draft Contract/Agreements for the procurement of company materials/items and edit those prepared by any departments in the company to ensure their compliance with the legal provisions.
   c) Maintain company legal documents and register them with appropriate bodies.
   d) To assist the Senior Legal Counsel in providing legal advice on various matters.
   e) Perform any other tasks as may be delegated by the Senior Legal Counsel.

Qualifications and Experience 

1. a) Bachelor of law (LLB)
   b) Form four and six Academic Certificates
   c) Minimum experience of 2 years in the position of legal officer from any reputable organization
   d) Extensive knowledge in various legal practices
   e) Computer literate, preferably in Microsoft Office and advance level in Microsoft Excel.
   f) Possession of a Master’s Degree will be an added advantage.
   g) Not more than 45 years old
