Position title Intern – Legal Research
Position grade UG
Duty station Moshi, United Republic of Tanzania
Duration of assignment 6 months – Full time
II. ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT AND SCOPE
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Established in 1951, the UN Migration Agency, IOM-UN is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and nongovernmental partners. The Organization is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants
As part of the IOM African Capacity Building Centre – ACBC, the intern will work under the direct supervision of the Training Assistant and overall ACBC Manager.
Under the supervision of the Training Assistant and the ACBC team and in accordance with the overall direction of the ACBC Manager, the candidate will perform a variety of tasks, subject to the team’s workload and priorities at the time of the internship.
The candidate will have the following duties and responsibilities:

1. Carry out desk-top research on the content for the IOM ACBC in support of curriculum development and training workshops.
2. Contribute to collection and analysis of regional and national legislation, policies and practices, as well as case law, for the ACBC online Repository.
3. Writing summaries and introduction pieces and preparing or editing materials related to the Repository.
4. Assist the media and communication intern in building /reorganizing the Centre’s virtual library.
5. Perform such other duties as may be required;

• Commitment to Continuous Learning: Initiative and willingness to learn new skills.
• Technological Awareness: Excellent computer skills; knowledge of MS Office. Knowledge of public information products software an asset.
• Trust: Reputation for dealing honestly and openly with staff. Respected by peers, clients and staff

V. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in Law or related field.
• Relevant academic or professional experience in legal research
• Able to adapt to an international, multicultural, multilingual environment.
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision
• Good communication skills and able to work in a team.
• Proficient in English writing and communication skills
• Familiar with computer programs, including MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
VI. LANGUAGES
Required
Fluency in both written and spoken English and Kiswahili Languages
Advantageous
