Job Description


VACANCY: DRIVER
LOCATION MAFIA ISLAND

BACKGROUND:

WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) Tanzania is seeking for a competent and motivated Driver for its projects to be based in Mafia, Tanzania.

Major Responsibility:

  1. Provide driving and maintenance services for the WWF vehicles.
  2. May perform other office work including reproducing and collating documents, courier services and other duties as assigned.

Specific Duties:

  1. Drive WWF TOO vehicles and other WWF staff, Partners and Project visitors, to field activities, meetings, and other work-related activities, ensuring that safety of all passengers is always given first priority.
  2. Ensure that office vehicles are properly maintained and secure at all times. Ensure that vehicles have adequate fuel, oil, brakes and other fluids and proper air in tyres at all times, including routine checks first thing in the morning, and ensure that vehicles are regularly cleaned. Schedule and perform periodic servicing, maintenance and tune-ups. Notify supervisor immediately of any maintenance problem or need for repairs.
  3. In addition to ensuring the safety of passengers, WWF vehicles should always be driven with the condition and long life of the vehicle as a primary concern. Vehicles should be driven carefully, cautiously and unhurriedly, overshadowing any consideration of speed or lateness. Departure times should be planned to allow plenty of time for the journey, avoiding any pressure to drive more quickly that road conditions or regulations warrant.
  4. Maintain vehicle logbooks in accordance with the policies and procedures for the WWF Tanzania Country Office, record-keeping including details of each journey: all inputs of fuel and lubricants: and all servicing and maintenance conducted.
  5. Pick up and deliver documents, mails, messages, purchased goods and other items as required.
  6. Provide additional services in the office as needed when not driving. These services may include photocopying, collating, clean-up, petty maintenance or other duties as assigned.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

  • Holder of at least Ordinary Secondary School Certificate (form IV), Holder of a clean ‘class C’ driving licence and a certificate of basic vehicle maintenance/mechanics training from a recognised institute: i.e. holders of Trade Test Certificate, Have at least 3 years driving experience, in both urban and rural remote, areas. Experience with Natural Resources Conservation Projects will be preferred. Fluent in spoken and written Kiswahili, and basic functional English. Must be competent in safe driving techniques with high manual knowledge combined with auto maintenance skills. The ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively is also required. Experience in working with international NGOs and/or donor-funded programmes will have an added advantage.
