Role Purpose

Together with the Business Development Manager, the Business Development Coordinator will be responsible for the achievement of Plan Tanzania’s annual fundraising goals to realize its CSP objectives, mainly by playing a pivotal role in leading the acquisition of grants across various income streams, managing smooth and timely project start-up and closure, assuring grant management systems quality.
Dimensions of the Role
The post holder will report directly to the Business Development Manager and will manage grant acquisition processes with budgets up to €2M under the supervision of BDM i.e. S/he will lead the design and write up of proposals for institutional funding. S/he will work very closely with the BDM, as well as other key departments such as Programme, Operations, Finance, PUs and Communication. The position holder has no direct reports, however, on occasions, S/he will need to supervise consultants.
Accountabilities
- Leading the acquisition efforts for projects with assigned / relevant National Offices.
- Responsible for leading the design of projects, ensuring of effective coordination with respective departments (including National Offices where applicable) and where applicable, appropriate consortium formation.
- Leading all key grants related start-up and closure processes for projects within the designated portfolio
- Writing of successful project proposals within the designated portfolio.
- Responsible for quality assurance to ensure grant proposals meets donor requirements, and timely and quality submission of projects.
- Support corporate engagement efforts of the department
- Responsible for diversified grants income as per targets agreed in the CSP and annual plan.
- Within the respective portfolio, ensure that all categories of program and operational costs are taken into account at the conceptualization and submission stage of grant preparation, and ensure that key cross cutting issues such as gender, influencing and partnerships are an integral part of the programs developed
- Responsible for liaising with other departments when setting up the FAD’s to ensure timelines for audits, evaluations and other reporting requirements are realistic and achievable.
- Responsible for effective management of relationships with donors and National Offices.
- Responsible for effective management of grants, including grant systems, and providing oversight on quality and timely reports
- Responsible for providing quality assurance of donor reports
- Management and coordination of Concept Notes and Proposal development processes.
- Manage and oversee excellent coordination of donor visits
- Managing, up-dating and sharing the Reporting Schedule document (monthly)
- Managing and up-dating the Grants Pipeline Management Tool (GPMT) (monthly)
- Managing and up-dating the FAD overview document (monthly)
- Work closely with the BDM to develop, manage and maintain strategic partnerships with local actors, including bilateral, multilaterals, corporate donors and external networks. Work closely with the BDM to research where potential opportunities for grants funding can be found
- Work closely with the BDM to develop strategic partnership and consortiums to increase Plan’s competitiveness
- Ensures that Plan International’s global policies for Child Protection (CPP) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI) are fully embedded in accordance with the principles and requirements of the policy including relevant Implementation Standards and Guidelines as applicable to their area of responsibility. This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring staff and associates are aware of and understand their responsibilities under these policies and Plan International’s Code of Conduct (CoC), their relevance to their area of work, and that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.
Key relationships
Internal:
Excellent working relationships are required within the BD team, the Program Team, HR team and Operations team (Finance, IT, Procurement, Logistics and Administration) in order to ensure timely and quality delivery of results.
External:
The BD specialist will be responsible to ensuring that all external relationships are well managed, coordinated and reviewed by the BDM.
Technical expertise, skills and knowledge
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, or related fields
- 3 years relevant experience in an NGO or donor organisation
- Demonstrated track record of writing project proposals and obtaining grant funding for development projects
- Demonstrable knowledge as a result of study, training or practical experience in development with a robust understanding of development programs
- A commitment to, and understanding of, participatory approaches to development.
- Excellent written and oral English language
