USAID Usalama wa Afya Duniani (Global Health Security) is a five-year USAID-funded project with an overall goal to support the strengthening of Tanzania’s capacities to develop, validate, and implement interventions to prevent, detect, and respond to Emerging Infectious Disease threats in Tanzania using a One Health approach.
Job Purpose
We are seeking an AMR Technical Officer who will be responsible for implementation of a national action plan for antimicrobial resistance (NAP-AMR) including surveillance of resistant pathogens and tracking antimicrobial consumption and use across public and private healthcare facilities, food production, and the community, and implementation of antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) at the facility level.

Under the support of the AMR lead, s/he will be involved in the collection, analysis, reporting and use of antimicrobial resistance, consumption and use data within the facility ensuring that the AMR data is shared with, and acted upon, by its medicines and therapeutics committee and that AMR data is used inform patient care at a facility level, with zonal or regional facilities developing their own antibiograms and formularies based on both the Access, Watch and Reserve (AWaRe) list and local AMR data.
Key Responsibilities
Provide technical assistance to strengthen Tanzania AMR detection and surveillance activities across human, animal, and environmental sectors. This may include monitoring antibiotic resistance patterns, usage and management practices.
Support the development and review/implementation of national AMR plans (NAPs), SOPs and policies at the national, regional, and local level.
Conduct multi-sectoral assessments of Tanzania’s AMR detection and surveillance capacity in both the public and private sector.
Ensure the project’s AMR activities are coordinated with other stakeholders working in Tanzania
Support the development and implementation of initiatives to improve AMR detection and surveillance capacity.
Assist in the establishment of national AMR surveillance systems that are capable of monitoring AMR trends and reporting to global surveillance systems (e.g. WHO GLASS).
Follow established processes, methods, and best practices to guarantee the technical and programmatic quality of GHS work in Tanzania
Work closely with the project team to define and adjust annual work plans as well as implementing those technical activities.
Provide technical writing inputs, documentation of project activities, and support monitoring and evaluation of AMR activities
Work closely with Global Health Security Agenda partners, regional and country Technical Leads and other stakeholders to ensure a coordinated approach to project implementation.
Participate in regular review of data and reports to ensure high standards of accuracy and reliability for effective implementation of AMR activities.
Compile quarterly reports, submit and present to the stakeholders and donor

Qualifications and Requirements:
Doctor of Medicine or bachelor’s degree in fields such as Health Laboratory Sciences, Epidemiology, Microbiology, Lab Management, or a related field.
MSc in public health, laboratory sciences, public health, and/or microbiology related field will be an added advantage
At least 5 years of experience in implementing AMR and laboratory activities in Tanzania
Demonstrate knowledge of laboratory principles for diagnosing infectious diseases
Proficiency in data collection, analysis, reporting ring, and use.
Experience in conducting training and capacity building.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams
