Introduction:

UZIKWASA is an NGO based in Pangani/Tanga.  For more than two decades the organization has been facilitating social change through strengthening voices in rural communities, fostering leadership commitment and collaboration with partners. UZIKWASA’s main program focus is on gender justice, gender-based violence and violence against children, and climate change impact on women’s equality. Our program integrates transformative leadership trainings using reflective approaches and multimedia campaigns to promote  social and cultural norms that discourage practices of gender violence, and violence against children. UZIKWASA  owns and runs the radio station Pangani FM that covers most of the Tanga region. We also work with institutional partners across Tanzania to share the learning from reflective leadership development practices and provide support towards building an organizational culture of change. The organization has a highly qualified team of 32 staff including 11 certified facilitators of organizational learning and development, 10 journalists, and finance, administration and support personnel.

Job Title: Accountant

Description:

We are looking for a qualified accountant to assist our finance manager. The candidate is expected to perform all day-to day accounting duties and ensure that accurate financial information is maintained. While carrying out her/his duties the s/he makes sure that principals of internal control and UZIKWASA financial and administrative policies are adhered to, and procedures and standards followed. The accountant works closely with the finance manager and the program staff to assist them in financial planning and operationalization. The candidate  is expected to commit to a culture of learning and personal growth through active participation in UZIKWASA’s learning events, team building sessions and reflective performance appraisals.

Qualifications & Experience Required:

A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, auditing or related field.   ACA, ACCA or CPA qualifications is a requirement and a minimum of three (3) years post qualification experience as accountant or finance professional. Experience with donor funding and NGO accounting is preferred alongside extensive knowledge in Tanzania’s tax laws and regulations. We expect proficiency in Quick books and/or other commercially available accounting software and excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
